Man sentenced for marijuana trafficking

A Marietta man accused of trafficking in marijuana was sentenced Tuesday in Washington County Common Pleas Court to 60 days in the Washington County Jail.

Elmer C. Wenzel, 22, of 118 Bartlett St. Apt 10, was sentenced on a fifth-degree felony count of trafficking in marijuana.

Wenzel was arrested June 25 while the Major Crimes Task Force was watching an area residence in regards to heroin trafficking, said Major Brian Schuck of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

“This individual showed up at the house and agents encountered him. He had an ounce of marijuana in his pocket that he admitted he was trying to trade for heroin,” said Schuck.

Wenzel was also sentenced to three years of community control, said Washington County Assistant Prosecutor Kevin Rings.

“And he forfeited $200 cash seized from his person when he was caught,” added Rings.

Wenzel received credit for one day served.
