Sex offender sent to jail for failing to report new address

A Lower Salem sex offender who failed to report a residence change to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was sentenced Tuesday in Washington County Common Pleas Court to 90 days in jail.

Mitchell E. Bailey, 24, of 1390 Campbell Run Road, was convicted of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and is required to register his address and report any changes with the WCSO.

When an officer checked up on Bailey in June, they found he had not been living at his registered address.

He was indicted in September on a charge of failure to register a change of address, a fourth-degree felony. He pleaded guilty Nov. 4 to the charge.

Bailey will receive credit for 81 days served and will remain on community control supervision for the underlying offense which occurred in 2011, said Washington County Assistant Prosecutor Kevin Rings.
