The 33rd annual Irish gathering sponsored by the Ancient Order of Hibernians will be held at 11:30 a.m. March 9 at the Lafayette Hotel. There will be a buffet, raffle, traditional Irish music by the Boys of the Hock and special performance by the Athens Irish Dancers. The cost is $25 for adults and $10 for children. Friends of the Lower Muskingum meeting

The February program of Friends of Lower Muskingum River will feature Kelly Capuzzi of the Ohio EPA, who has been involved in testing the Muskingum River for the past couple of years. She will give the results of the TMDL testing but can also answer general questions about water quality and fish in the river. The program will begin at 7 p.m. today in Room 150 of Selby Hall at Marietta College. The public is invited.

MHS?changes for graduation testing

Marietta High School will administer the Ohio Graduation test to sophomores during the week of March 10-14. A free breakfast will be offered to students from 7:15 to 7:35 a.m. each day in the cafeteria. Testing will be from 7:45 until lunch, served from 10:15 to 10:55 a.m.. After lunch all students will follow have an eight-period day with abbreviated class times. All students who are not taking part in testing but must use school transportation should arrive at the regular start time of 7:40 a.m. Those students will have a study hall until testing is over. All students not participating in testing who can provide their own transportation should not report to school until 10:55 a.m.

Work session for Switzerland schools

Washington-Morgan Community Action is offering free assistance with filing of tax returns through the Ohio Benefit Bank. The income limits for free tax assistance through the Ohio Benefit Bank have increased to $95,000 for those using married filing jointly tax filing status and $65,000 for all other tax filers.

Training begins for master gardeners

Water donations sought for W.Va.

Twisted Sisters Boutique, 197 Front St., Marietta is asking residents to drop of gallons of water that will be taken to areas of West Virginia still in need of clean water. Gallon containers of drinking or distilled water brought to the store will be taken to the Charleston area on Friday.

Marietta FFA square dance Saturday

The Marietta FFA is holding a square dance from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Washington County Junior Fair Building. The cost is $5 per person and $8 per couple. Concessions will be available and the Buckeye Travelers will perform.

Story hour at New Matamoras library

Registration is now under way at the New Matamoras Library for the winter/spring story hour programs. Story Hour is an interactive program for 2-to- 5-year-olds and their parent/caregiver featuring stories, crafts, creative play and music. Programs will begin Feb. 12 and will meet every Wednesday at 10 a.m. Registration is required by calling 865-3386.

Free lunch Saturday at Baptist church

The Singles and Doubles Class of First Baptist Church will be offering its Caring and Sharing Free Community Lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church located at 301 Fourth St. All are invited to participate in this lunch.

The class also reminds community members of a second monthly free lunch served by the Acacia Class of First Baptist Church on the fourth Saturday of each month at the same time and location.

Rumpke trash service in Washington County will be delayed by one day this week, as service was canceled Monday due to the weather.

Benefit at Cutler Center reset for Sat.

A benefit to raise money for Jim and Ruth Blair has been rescheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cutler Community Center, 4450 Two Mile Run Road. There will be a pot luck dinner, auction, raffles, singers and donations accepted. Proceeds will assist the Blairs with their medical expenses. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish and/or dessert.

Annual Cabin Fever run/walk Feb. 23

The 10th annual Cabin Fever 2 Mile Run/Walk, which supports the Marietta City Schools’ Cross Country program, will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Broughton Nature Preserve off Ohio 821 near Marietta. The start and finish is at the picnic shelter. Individuals or teams can race. Registration for individuals is $12 by Feb. 14 and $15 after. Registration for teams is $36 by Feb. 14 and $45 after. Benefit in Fleming for local 2-year-old

A benefit will be held Sunday at Lazy H Farm in Fleming for Caleb Wall, a local 2-year-old at Children’s Hospital in Columbus after contracting the flu. Doors will open at 1 p.m. Bingo with chances to win Longaberger, Thirty-One, Pink Zebra and more will start at 3 p.m. The cost is 20 games for $20. A silent auction and bake sale will take place and food will available throughout the event. Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary in Whipple will hold a soup beans and cornbread supper from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the DAV Hall, 835 DAV Road. The cost of the meal is a donation and the money raised goes to assist veterans and veterans families.
