Parkersburg man seriously injured in stabbing

PARKERSBURG – A Parkersburg man was seriously injured Saturday following a reported stabbing early Saturday morning in Parkersburg.

Christopher Adam Grinter, 27, of Parkersburg, was taken to Camden Clark Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Campus where he was in critical condition Saturday evening, said hospital spokesman Tim Brunicardi.

The suspect, Jacob Nehemiah Evans, 30, of Parkersburg, was arraigned Saturday on a felony charge of malicious wounding where his bond was set at $150,000, Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin said. Evans was transported to the North Central Regional Jail after failing to post bond.

Martin said Parkersburg police responded about 4:23 a.m. Saturday to the St. Joseph’s Campus to investigate a reported stabbing. At the hospital, officers from the Uniform Division spoke with witnesses to the alleged altercation between Grinter and Evans.

According to witness statements, Evans and Grinter were involved in a fight that took place at the Nip N Cue on 19th Street in Parkersburg. Evans is an employee of the establishment. The two were separated and Grinter left the bar without further incident, Martin said.

Witnesses stated that Evans followed Grinter from the bar to a residence on Covert Street. Once at the Covert Street residence, Evans confronted Grinter. The two became involved in a physical altercation. Witnesses further advised that Evans produced a large knife and repeatedly stabbed Grinter, Martin said.

After the stabbing, Evans fled the area and Grinter was immediately taken to the emergency room for medical treatment.

Parkersburg Police Detectives were called to the scene of the stabbing to begin a criminal investigation. The detectives conducted interviews at the scene and at PPD Headquarters, Martin said. Detectives located Evans at a residence off of College Parkway early Saturday morning and interviewed him before charging him with the felony count.

If convicted, Evans could face between two and 10 years in prison, Martin said.
