Man hurt in fire dies
OLIVE TOWNSHIP, – A Meigs County man who was burned over 45 percent of his body in a fire at the trailer where he lived last week has died.
Owen Miller, 50, passed away Monday morning at Cabell-Huntington Hospital in Huntington. He had been taken to the hospital by medical helicopter Thursday night after the fire at the residence at 51485 Mount Olive Road in Olive Township, just south of Long Bottom.
The trailer was owned by Rodney Pierce, 65, who was pulled from the structure earlier by a neighbor. Firefighters later got Miller out. The fire reportedly started in his room.
Firefighters said the blaze appeared to be accidental. Michael Duchesne, assistant director of communications with the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office, said the fire remains under investigation.
Funeral arrangements for Miller are pending at White-Schwarzel Funeral Home in Coolville.
