Belpre Methodist churches plan walk

The three Belpre Methodist churches are having a Relay For Life walk from 5 p.m. Friday, May 16, all night until noon on Saturday, May 17, at Belpre Civitan Park. Those not involved with any other Relay For Life organization and who want to help should call Penny Hall at (740) 678-2552, or personal message her on facebook for more information. The public is invited to walk or give for a luminary in honor of someone who has had cancer or died from cancer. Checks should be made out to Belpre Heights U.M. A farm equipment and yard sale benefit will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for Sally Anderson of Middleburg. Proceeds will go towards her cancer medical bills. Right Path sponsors fish fry Friday

The Right Path for Washington County is sponsoring an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5108, 319 Pike St., Marietta.

Dinner includes fried fish, fries, cole slaw, baked beans, and bread for $10. Silent auction items will be available for bid, and live music will be featured. Tickets are $10 and are available from any board member, at the door, or by calling 374-6990.

Outdoors event for women at 4-H camp

The Experience the Outdoors Event is May 17. It is an educational program in which ladies learn various outdoor skills. It is designed for women 14 years and older. The event is held at Hervida 4-H camp from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Some of the courses this year: Archery, Barn Quilting, Competitive Pistol, Cowgirl Action Shooting, Creek Stomping, Fairy Gardens, History Mystery, Mt.Biking, Pot-a-licious, Shotgun Sporting Clays & Zumba. Drainage work in 900 block of Lancaster

Bowen Construction will be performing drainage construction work for the city in the 900 block of Lancaster Street in Marietta beginning Monday. The work is expected to last three to four days, weather permitting. Traffic will be maintained by flaggers and signage. Sewer repairs on Phillips Street

The Marietta Wastewater Department will be making emergency sanitary sewer repairs in the area of 196-198 Phillips St. beginning at 8 a.m. today. There will be no parking in front of 196-198 Phillips. Phillips Street will be closed to traffic to and from Greene Street to allow for equipment and material access. City water service

interruption planned

The City of Marietta Water/Distribution Department will have a planned water service interruption beginning at 10 a.m. Wednesday to replace a section of leaking water main in the 100 block of Third Street. That block as well as the condos on Ohio Street will be affected. The southbound lane from Greene Street to Ohio Street will be closed to traffic. There will be a boil advisory for 24 hours after the work is completed. Customers should flush water lines until the water is clear.

Wildflower Walk April 22 at refuge

Master Naturalist Emily Grafton will lead a Native Wildflower Walk at 7 p.m. April 22 at the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge, 3982 Waverly Road, Williamstown. An indoor presentation will be held in the event of inclement weather. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge. After the program a limited number of native plants will be available for purchase with proceeds going to support environmental education.

Bees’ plight

to be discussed

The April program of the Marietta Natural History Society will be presented by MaLisa Spring, who has done her senior capstone project for her biology major at Marietta College on bees. Spring collected 2,756 bees from three Washington County sites and will discuss local bee diversity and their pollen sources. The program will be at 7 p.m. today in Room 150 of Selby Hall at Marietta College. The public is invited to attend.

The Marietta College softball team will hold its sixth annual Community Softball Day beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday at Marietta Field.

Street closure begins Tuesday

The 300 block of Putnam Street between the alley and the intersection with Third Street will be closed beginning about 8 a.m. Tuesday and is scheduled to re-open later in the day. The closure is to allow crews to install a new fiber optic cable underneath Putnam Street. Sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians.

Senior capstone

art exhibit at MC

The Marietta College Art Department will hold its annual senior capstone exhibition in the Atrium Gallery of the Hermann Fine Arts Center, on campus at the intersection of Fourth and Butler streets. The exhibition will have an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. April 11 and will run through May 11.

Volunteers invited to cemeteries work day

Volunteers are invited Saturday to assist Marietta Cemeteries Coming Alive and Marietta College students working to repair a century-old brick wall at historic Oak Grove Cemetery.

The project is part of Community Service Day. Volunteers are meeting at 9 a.m. at the Eighth and Washington Street cemetery entrance for job assignments. Besides rebuilding portions of the wall, others will be repairing a family burial site for a 98-year-old Marietta resident.

Volunteers need to wear heavy shoes or boots, gloves and carry a water bottle. Tools will be provided on site. Groups of three or more are encouraged to call or email in advance for planning purposes.

Spring jazz concert April 15 at MC
