Clothing and school supply drive at library

A clothing and school supply drive will be held Thursday through Saturday at the Barlow Library on Ohio 339 during regular library hours. Donations of lightly used clothing and new school supplies to benefit local children and families in need will be collected.

Boil water advisory for some customers

The Belpre Public Works Department has announced a boil water advisory for all water customers on upper Ohio 7 north of the Belpre city limits and customers in the 600-1000 blocks of Florence Street and Main Street until 5:30 p.m. Friday. Repair of a water leak required that certain hydrants be opened, resulting in the main water line being depressurized in this area. Customers on First Lane, Joe Skinner Road, Camelot Mobile Home Park, Ayers Boulevard and north to the end of the water main at EnviroTank Clean will be affected. The city has also been forced to close additional valves at Sixth Street and Florence Street which has lowered the pressure on water lines serving customers north of the 600-1000 blocks of Florence Street and Main Street below minimum standards.

Dominion Gas will start work on avenue

Dominion Gas will begin extensive work Wednesday on the length of Oakwood Avenue. Workers replacing all metal gas lines will be on Oakwood for several weeks and then expanding onto Chestnut, Holly and Terrace. The work is part of a 12-year construction effort to replace every old metal gas line in the city with new plastic line.

Anyone with disabilities or mobility issues may call Dominion so workers may be aware of special needs for allowing access in and out of properties.

Coop planning brief outage today

Washington Electric Cooperative has scheduled a brief power outage affecting approximately 150 members served by the Bartlett substation at 9 a.m. today. The affected area includes the circuit extending from the Bartlett substation to Creek Road and toward Palmer Square. The outage will last about 30 minutes so crews can re-energize power lines that had been back fed from the Watertown substation while road crews repaired a slip on Creek Road.

A benefit night for the Williamstown boys soccer team will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. July 22 at Wendy’s on Pike Street in Marietta. A percentage of the sales will go to the team and donation boxes will be available in the restaurant. The team members will be helping clear and clean tables and will take donations in the drive-thru.

Fort Frye’s finance committee will meet

There will be a Fort Frye Local Board of Education Finance Committee meeting at 5 p.m. Thursday in the superintendent’s office located at Beverly-Center Elementary School, 510 5th St., Beverly.

Library program at planetarium Thurs.

The Washington County Public Library will host a special program at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Hancock Planetarium. Learn how astronomers are attempting to answer the question of how many planets exist beyond our Solar System. Also participate in a live discussion about the current night sky, including regions with many known exoplanets. Parking is available in the Hermann Fine Arts parking lot. Wildlife refuge plans ‘Moth Night’ program

The Friends of Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge will sponsor a “Moth Night” program at 8:30 p.m. July 22. Join Master Naturalist Emily Grafton for an in-depth program about moths. This will include an introduction to moths and an observation opportunity of native species. The program will be held at the Refuge Visitor Center, 3982 Waverly Road, Williamstown. Closed toed shoes are recommended. The program is free and approximately 90 minutes long.

Williamstown church to hold music camp

A community music workshop for children in second to sixth grade will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily July 21-24 at the First Presbyterian Church in Williamstown. Participants will learn about rhythm, make instruments, take part in a special service activity and meet special guest musicians. The workshop is free of charge and lunch will be provided daily. Natural History Society to honor Ortt

The Marietta Natural History Society will devote its meeting Thursday to a celebration of Marilyn Ortt, a founder and board member of the MNHS. Everyone is invited to share stories and remembrances of Marilyn over refreshments. Members will also discuss the future of the society, now in its third decade. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. in Selby 150 (Rickey Science Center) at Marietta College.

New 5K focus on disability rights

The first Walk n Roll for Disability Rights, a 5K walk or run hosted by the Supporters of Disability Rights in the Mid-Ohio Valley, will be held at 10 a.m. July 27 along the Muskingum River. Free legal clinic July 16 at local church

The Washington County Bar Association and Southeastern Ohio Legal Services will offer a free legal clinic from 6 to 8 p.m. July 16 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 320 Second St., Marietta. Walk-ins are welcome. The clinic is for Washington County residents unable to afford legal representation (less than 187 percent of the poverty guideline).

BHS alumni will hold social on Saturday

The Belpre High School Alumni Association will hold its annual ice cream social from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Howe’s Grove Park and the Belpre Senior Center. There will be entertainment and food for purchase, including hot dogs, pie and ice cream. All proceeds go toward scholarships.

Benefit for woman undergoing breast cancer treatment

A benefit for Ginger Moore McConnell will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Marietta Shrine Club. Dinner will include chicken and noodles with mashed potatoes, green beans and a roll for $10. There will also be a live auction, country store, 50/50 and a performance by Pickin’ on Country. McConnell is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

A benefit concert for Toby Bigelow featuring Anthony Mossburg will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Frontier High School football field. The cost is $10 per person. There will be concessions. Seating is limited; bring a chair. Toby is an 8-year-old Newport resident battling ALL (Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia).
