Break-ins at The Galley and Town House

Police are looking for answers and suspects behind multiple burglaries, including two at downtown restaurants, that happened between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning in Marietta.

The Marietta Police Department responded early Wednesday morning to an alarm at The Galley restaurant, 203 Second St. Soon after they were notified of another overnight burglary at the nearby Town House, 230 Front St. said Marietta Police Capt. Jeff Waite.

“Forced entry was made in both businesses, and we haven’t yet determined what was taken,” said Waite.

The suspects knocked out a window at The Galley. The police responded to an alarm at the restaurant which went off around 4:45 a.m.

At the Town House, the suspects busted in the back door, said Waite.

While The Galley opened on schedule Wednesday, the burglary set the Town House back a couple of hours, said Joe Matheny, who discovered the robbery when he showed up to open the Town House Wednesday morning. Matheny’s family owns the restaurant.

“The police were here for a substantial amount of time trying to get what they needed. We’ve got it cleaned up now. We’re expecting to be open by 2 p.m.,” said Matheny.

At the Town House, the suspects broke into video games and the jukebox.

The two downtown burglaries are likely connected, said Waite.

Also broken into overnight were two vehicles on Aurora Street, he said.

“I think there was a laptop taken from the one guy’s car. I don’t think there was any damage to the car,” said Waite.

The two thefts from cars are thought to be related to one another but not to the downtown burglaries, he added.

Finally, the Marietta Police Department is investigating a burglary at a Norwood home.

During the break in at 127 Euclid Place, the thief stole copper pipe, said Waite.

There are no signs of forced entry in the home.

The home’s owner was not present at the time of the break-in, said Waite.

Anyone with information regarding the burglaries can contact police at 373-4141.
