Critical injury in wreck on County House Lane
A Kettering man is in critical condition after wrecking his motorcycle Tuesday afternoon in Marietta Township.
David R. Sanford, 62, and a friend on another motorcycle were traveling north on County House Lane toward Ohio 26 shortly after 5 p.m. when Sanford apparently drove off the right side of the road and struck a manhole in the grass, said Trooper David Handschumacher of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Sanford and his bike, a 2013 Harley Davidson Road King, landed back in the roadway where they slid for several yards.
The Reno Volunteer Fire Department responded and transported Sanford to Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was conscious when transported, said Captain Ted Patterson of the Reno Volunteer Fire Department.
Sanford was life-flighted from MMH to Grant Medical Center in Columbus where he remained in critical condition Tuesday night, said Handschumacher. Sanford had not been wearing a helmet, he added.
Sam Meade, who lives nearby, heard the accident and was one of the first on scene.
“I heard it shatter. I heard him sliding,” said Meade.
Sanford was bleeding heavily around his eye, ear and forehead, said Meade.
