Kettering man’s condition serious, but improving

A Kettering man who was life-flighted to Grant Medical Center in Columbus after crashing his motorcycle Tuesday evening in Marietta Township is improving.

David R. Sanford, 62, was listed in serious condition in Grant’s Intensive Care Unit Wednesday afternoon, according to medical center spokesman Colin Yoder. He had been listed in critical condition directly following the crash Tuesday night.

Sanford and a friend on a separate motorcycle were riding on County House Lane toward Ohio 26 when the accident happened shortly after 5 p.m.

Sanford apparently veered off the road, hit a large manhole in the grass, and was sent skidding for several yards. He was not wearing a helmet, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol Trooper David Handschumacher, who investigated the crash.
