PARKERSBURG -The Wood County Board of Education will hold two meetings next week, beginning with a swearing in of two new members and election of a new school board president.
The board will hold its statutory meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the 13th and Plum streets offices in Parkersburg. Statutory meetings are required by state law.
Newly elected members Peggy Smith and Jim Asbury will take the oath of office as administered by Circuit Court Judge J.D. Beane.
The board is expected to elect a new president and vice president, each for a two-year term.

The board will discuss meeting times and places for the 2014-15 year and will approve appointments to a dozen committees.
A regular meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, also at the district office. Assistant Superintendent Mike Fling will give a presentation on summer construction projects, while Attendance Director Chris Rutherford will speak on homeless students in Wood County Schools.
The board is expected to approve meeting dates for the 2014-15 year as well as 2015 graduation dates for the district’s three public high schools: Parkersburg High School’s graduation will be at 7 p.m. May 28, a Thursday; Parkersburg South High School’s will be at 7 p.m. May 29, a Friday; and Williamstown High School’s will be at 11 a.m. May 30, a Saturday. Those dates may be changed prior to the vote.
Both meetings are open to the public.
