Democratic Dinner on Oct. 8 at K of C

The Washington County Democratic Party will hold its annual Fall Dinner on Oct. 8 at the K of C Hall, Franklin St., Marietta. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Former First Lady Frances Strickland will be the guest speaker. Tickets are $30 per person and those interested in attending may call Donna at 740-585-2042 or Louise at 740-373-7715 to make reservations (before Oct. 2). All candidates will be in attendance.

Beekeepers group will meet at Career Center

The Mid Ohio Valley Beekeepers’ Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Washington County Career Center, Marietta. An instructional video titled “Summer to Winter” will be shown with a question and answer period to follow. As always, anyone interested in beekeeping, is invited to attend.

Beginner ballroom dance classes

A new “brand new beginner” ballroom dance class, taught by instructor Bill Held, is being organized. Classes will begin at 6 p.m. Oct. 3 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Parkersburg. Cost is $100 per couple for the 10-week session. Classes are one hour in length, are open to all ages, from high school students to adults. Partners are required. The class assumes no prior ballroom dance experience. Basic steps in waltz, foxtrot, cha-cha, and swing will be taught. Ongoing Monday classes will continue at 7 p.m.Tuesday classes will continue at Putnam Commons, third floor. Returning students should contact either Sue Montera to determine proper placement.

Dining With Diabetes series continues

Dining With Diabetes, a class series, will take place on Mondays, Oct. 17, 24 and 31 from 10 a.m. to noon, and will be held at the Ohio State University Extension office located at 202 Davis Ave., Marietta. The cost is $18 per person and the registration deadline is Oct. 10.  Participants will learn strategies to manage their diabetes through menu planning, carbohydrate counting, portion control, label reading and taste testing healthy recipes.
