Wood BOE to discuss projects, curriculum items

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education meets Tuesday to discuss curriculum adoption and receive updates on various programs.

The board meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wood County Schools’ 13th and Plum street offices in Parkersburg. The meeting is open to the public.

Curriculum coordinator Ashley Beatty will present the board with information on curriculum adoption for both Spanish and French foreign language materials. Those items will be up for board approval later in the meeting.

Keith Palmer, director of elementary schools, will present the board with the 2017-18 school calendar. The board previously reviewed two options for the calendar which slightly changed the start and ending dates for the school year. The final proposed calendar will be proposed Tuesday and will be up for approval later in the meeting.

The board also will receive a presentation on federal Title I and a new dual credit advanced placement calculus class through West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

Assistant Superintendent Mike Fling is set to present information on a timbering project near Edison Middle School and a discussion of property purchases for construction projects.

Fling declined to give details on the timbering project, saying the information would be presented Tuesday to the board.

The board also will have a presentation from Art Smith of The Parkersburg News and Sentinel concerning a project to publish a book about Parkersburg High School’s centennial.
