Milling will begin Monday and be completed Wednesday weather permitting for the city’s 2018 paving project. Paving will follow beginning Wednesday and concluding on Sept. 21, weather permitting.

The following are streets included:

1st Ward: Aurora Street (Shade to Sunset), Shade Street (Aurora to Dead End), Captain D. Seeley MIA Drive (Pike to Private Property), Dudley Avenue (Quarry to Cedar), Grant Edwards Drive (Belle Meadow to Glendale), South Hart Street (Fourth to Sixth), Sixth Street (Hart to Greene), Vine Street (Greene to Spring), Wayne Street (Eighth to Pike) Sections of Multiuse Path (Behind Waste Water Treatment Plant)

3rd Ward: Colegate Drive (Woodcrest to Academy), Davis Avenue (Lee to School Entrance)

The fifth annual Round the Island Kayak, Canoe, and SUP Race will be held Sunday. The event is organized by the Marietta Rowing and Cycling Club. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and race starts at 9 at the Ohio River Boat Ramp in Williamstown. Participants can enter using single or double kayaks or canoes or SUPs, and all paddlers are required to wear personal flotation devices. Participants will race on the Ohio River from the boat ramp and up the West Virginia side of Buckley Island then back down the Ohio side of the island to the boat ramp. The course is about 7 miles long. There is no preregistration. Registration will cost $15 per person.

St. Luke’s Lutheran Church’s 17th annual Community Give-Away Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 28 at the church, located at 401 Scammel St., Marietta. The congregation will be donating slightly used items to be given away for free to those in the community in need. Items include toys, household goods, clothes, books, shoes, etc. Everyone is welcome.

Disabled American Veterans Pioneer City Chapter 52 membership meeting and social hour with food from Qdoba will be held Monday. Doors open at 5 p.m., with the regular meeting at 6 p.m. at the Chapter Hall at 835 DAV Road, off of Ohio 821 at Exit 6 of I-77. Members and guests are invited. The chapter has many projects underway, and there are opportunities to be of service to local veterans. Potential new members, as well as men and women who may be interested in helping DAV Auxiliary are welcome. There is also a youth auxiliary for those under 18.
