Craft show season still in swing

CHAD PLAUCHE-ADKINS The Marietta Times On Tuesday, Judy Nicholson displays the crafts she will have for sale at the 26th annual Marietta Band Boosters Craft Show on Saturday.

The fall craft show season still has plenty of energy left.

Among the shows still to come are the 26th annual Marietta Band Boosters Craft Show, the fifth annual Newport VFD Craft Show and the Betsy Mills Christmas Village Craft Show.

This Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Marietta Band Boosters will be having their 26th annual craft show to raise money for the band program in the city schools, said Pamela Masselli, event organizer. The $2 entrance fee will gain a person access to more than 50 crafters and vendors at the Washington County Junior Fair Building.

“We have a diverse mixture of crafts,” said Masselli. “We have Christmas themed items, wood crafts, bath and body products and even Tupperware.”

For people familiar with attending Marietta High School sporting events, the menu at the concession stand should be familiar.

“It’s the same people who do the football concessions,” said Masselli. “So you know it has to be good.”

Judy Nicholson, 58, of Marietta, said she has been doing the booster’s craft show for almost 20 years.

“It’s the biggest show in Marietta,” she said. “I’ve made life-long crafting friends and family there.”

For the last two years Missy Gust has been the chairwoman for the Newport VFD Craft Show, helping out with a cause that is near and dear to her heart.

“My brother Bill Cochran is the fire chief of the Newport Volunteer Fire Department,” she said.

The $2 entrance fee and concession stand monies will be donated to the fire department to help with operational costs. Also a raffle will be held in which items donated by all of the 50 crafters at the show will be given away.

Gust said on Nov. 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., people will have a wide variety of items to choose from at the community building next to the fire house in Newport.

“There will be homemade jewelry, Christmas ornaments, crocheted items, essential oils, anything you can think of,” she said.

Then, on Dec. 1, the Betsey Mills Club will be holding its Christmas Village Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Betsey Mills gym on the corner of Fourth and Putnam streets.

Jocelyn Adelsperger, executive director at Betsey Mills, said their craft show will be more Christmas driven than the others.

“We have a crafter that uses electricity to burn images into wood,” she said. “We will also have a person that hand blows glass ornaments.”

The entrance fee, concession and country store proceeds will help the organization to continue offering programs and services to every member of the community. The country store is filled with donations from the crafters and vendors where all the proceeds are given to Betsey Mills.

Out of the three events, only the Christmas Village Craft Show has one booth left available for rent. Adelsperger said she can be contacted at 740-373-4981 for more information about reserving the space.
