Historic homes on Julia-Ann holiday tour

PARKERSBURG — People came out to the Julia-Ann Square Historic District in Parkersburg throughout the weekend for its annual Christmas home tour.

Known this year as the “Tour, Tea and Treasures, a Victorian Tour of Homes and Antique Show,” there were four historic homes featured on the tour. Each home has been decorated for the holiday season in a variety of styles, from period to modern.

The homes on this year’s holiday tour included the Wade-Webb House at 1034 Ann Street, the Leach-Nicholson House at 1214 Ann St., the Shaffer House at 1025 Juliana St. and the Caswell-Smith House at 1024 Juliana Street.

“Things have gone very smoothly throughout the weekend, even with the rain we had Saturday night,” Tour Chairman John Nicholson said Sunday. “We still had a steady flow of folks coming through.

“It has been a really nice weekend.”

Many people enjoy the chance to get out and see the old homes, especially when they are decorated for the Christmas season, Nicholson said.

“People are appreciative that we are opening up the homes for the tour,” he said.

Organizers expanded this year’s offerings, including some new events on Thursday and Friday in addition to the annual home tours on Saturday and Sunday.

This year’s events included a Champagne Preview Reception at the Wade-Webb Mansion on Thursday evening, sponsored by the Blennerhassett Hotel. Antiques were being sold at the home throughout the weekend. The third floor ballroom featured vignette performances by the Mid-Ohio Valley Ballet.

An Antique Show and Art Exhibition continued Saturday and Sunday. Carriage ride were done by the Hardly Able Carriage Company throughout the weekend event. A candlelight tour of the homes was done Saturday evening.
