Rings trial postponed

From staff reports

Washington County Prosecutor Kevin Rings’ trial has been moved from its scheduled start on Tuesday to Feb. 6.

Rings has been charged with two misdemeanors, sexual imposition and coercion. The original court date was set on Sept. 15 by special judge Patricia Hardgrove.

During June and July of 2017, Rings is accused of sending Amy Davis, 33, personal text messages as well as touching her inappropriately in his office on July 6, 2017.

At the time, Davis was awaiting sentencing for a conviction on drug trafficking and was a victim in a separate case of alleged kidnapping by her then-boyfriend.

Rings’ lawyer, David McNamara of Columbus said the delay was due to Hardgrove reviewing grand jury testimony. McNamara said that of the character witnesses used, some might be in favor of Rings and that Hardgrove will make that determination.

“We want to know about it and see if it can be used,” he said.
