Suspects sentenced in common pleas court

Several people have recently been sentenced by the Washington County Common Pleas Court for charges relates to drugs and community control violations.

•Darren Allen Petty, 31 of 211 Pickering St., Parkersburg was sentenced to 60 days in the county jail for a parole violation. He was on parole after serving time for charges related to a February 2017 indictment for using his grandmother’s ATM card without her permission. Petty took more than $12,000 from his elderly grandparents.

•Justin C. Sherman, 30, of 853 Strawberry Hill Road, Columbus, was sentenced to 17 months at the Pickaway Correctional Institution for a parole violation. His case, which was originally handled by the Ohio Attorney General’s office, involved a 2015 incident where he and three other co-conspirators were pulled over en route to Marietta Memorial Hospital with intentions of using a firearm to rob someone.

•Raymond E. Spears, 45, of 907 Neal St., Parkersburg, was sentenced to a total of 90 days in the Washington County Jail and two years community control for two charges. In November, Spears failed to appear for a pre-trial hearing in relation to an October drug possession charge.

•Freddy Taylor, 47, of 729 Ninth St., Marietta pleaded guilty to drug related charges and received 18 months prison time. On Nov. 7, the Washington County grand jury indicted Taylor on three charges related to possessing methamphetamine and heroin. On Jan. 3 and Feb. 5, Taylor was pulled over by Marietta Police and was found to be in possession of the drugs.

•Caleb Smith, 20, of 242 Blair Ave., Mineral Wells, W.Va., pleaded guilty and was sentenced for a charge of breaking and entering. The charge stems from a 2016 arrest where he and a co-conspirator broke into Cashland in Belpre and stole two laptop computers. He was sentenced to 120 days in the county jail and ordered to pay for the damages at the store, which totaled $789.68. His alleged co-conspirator, Jason Knowlon II, 20, of 808 Division St. Parkersburg, is still wanted by the authorities.
