Tree crews will be working for weeks

Asplundh Tree Expert Company crews have begun to clear around electrical facilities. The work is expected to take about eight weeks, barring bad weather. Representatives from Asplundh will be ahead of tree crews marking trees that are identified to be cut or trimmed and notifying customers of the work. Crews will first be working around Cole Coffman Hill Road, Ohio 550, Ohio 7, River Lane and the surrounding areas. Interruption to electric service is not expected but unexpected situations may require an outage to allow crews to do their work safely.

Board of Elections will be closed for training

The Washington County Board of Elections will be closed Wednesday through Friday to allow staff to attend the 2019 OAEO Winter Conference. The office will re-open at 8 a.m. Jan. 14.

Disabilities board will hold its annual meeting

The Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities will be holding an annual organizational meeting at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. The regular meeting of the board will immediately follow. The meetings will be held at Ewing School on 1701 Colegate Drive. All meetings of the WCBDD are open to the public.

Christmas feast review meeting planned

Volunteers are invited to a Christmas Day feast review and planning meeting at 3 p.m. Jan. 20 on the first floor of Marietta First Presbyterian Church at the corner of Fourth and Wooster streets. As always, this community service is open to all denominations. The agenda will be to make note of tasks and procedures that worked well in 2018 and to improve where needed in preparation for this year’s sixth annual Christmas Day feast. All current teams and new volunteers are welcome.

Solar energy class offered at UU Church

A class on solar energy will be offered from 1 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 25 at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta’s social hall. The class is geared for architects and other engineers, landscape architects, electricians, construction companies and others interested in the technology. The course costs $75 if registered by noon on Jan. 24 or $100 at the door. Blue Rock Station will also offer five-day solar installer training leading to level 1 certification at First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta in March.
