Cutler Community Center Line Dance Classes have been canceled for January and will resume in February on Thursday evenings from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Cutler Community Center, 4550 Two Mile Run Road. Lessons are free but donations are accepted.

The Marietta/Belpre City Health Department at 304 Putnam St. will be holding a free hearing specialty clinic on Thursday. This clinic is available to all those under 21 years of age regardless of insurance or income. Many children come to this clinic after failing school hearing screenings, having a history of frequent ear infections or speech delays or having parental concerns regarding hearing. No physician referral is needed. At the clinic children will receive a hearing test by an audiologist, speech evaluation by a speech therapist (if indicated) and an examination by Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist Dr. Richard Gunovich. Beverly American Legion Post 389 on Fifth Street is hosting an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. For $8, the meal includes baked or deep fried fish as well as fries and cole slaw. There will be music by Jessica Jo and Justin from 7 to 10 p.m. The public is welcome.

The First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta will be holding an African drum workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 19 conducted by master drummer Lawrence Greene. This will be the first in a series of monthly drum workshops. The workshop fee is $10 and advance registration is required. Drums will be provided to students who need them. Please call Rev. A meeting will be held for Marietta High School students interested in taking College Credit Plus/dual enrollment classes (at the high school or on the college campus) next school year. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 24 in the high school auditorium and local college representatives will be available for questions. Parents and their student are urged to attend in order to better understand the program.

The Washington County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet at 1 p.m. Jan. 19 at the in the lower level meeting room of the Washington County Public Library. Ernie Thode will be the speaker and his topic will be “12 Steps to Citizenship, 1925 to 1935. German citizen, Ernst Thode to a Naturalized American Citizen, Ernest Thode.” Visitors are always welcome at the meetings.
