Program on county’s first families Saturday

The Washington County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet at noon Saturday at the Marietta Township Recreation Center, 260 Sandhill Road, Reno. The society will honor new First Families of Washington County inductees. The speaker will be Jayne Stehle, who will discuss the documentary film project “Opening the Door West.” A potluck meal will be served; meat, drinks, bread and utensils will be provided.

Warren school board meetings planned

The starting time of the May regular board meeting of the Warren Local Schools Board of Education has been changed to 7 p.m. on May 20. The meeting will begin with an update on the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission building project with the regular May meeting to follow. The Finance Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday at 3:30 p.m. The Policy Committee will meet May 20 at 5 p.m., and the Operations Committee will follow at 6 p.m. All meetings will be held at the Warren Administration Office, 220 Sweetapple Road, Vincent.

City street sweeping scheduled this week

This week, the city of Marietta will begin its annual street sweeper schedule. The schedule is:

¯ Monday: West side and Harmar Hill.

¯ Tuesday: Norwood and south end.

¯ Wednesday: North Hills and Rathbone area.

¯ Thursday: Front Street through 10th Street and cross streets.

¯ Thursday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Friday: Front Street to Fourth Street between Greene and Scammel, Washington and Putnam streets, the Williamstown Bridge, Muskingum Drive and Fort Harmar Drive.

MHS seniors will be recognized on Thurs.

Marietta High School will hold its annual Senior Recognition Assembly at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the high school auditorium. The Class of 2019 will march in caps and gowns for this ceremony. Various scholarships, awards and special honors will be presented to the students. All are invited to attend.

High Tea and Basket Auction at the Betsey

The Betsey Mills Club will host a High Tea and Basket Auction at 3 p.m. Sunday in the dining room. Tickets must be reserved in advance and are $20 each or $75 for a table of four. Proceeds will benefit parlor and dining room projects. Catering will be by Jeremiah’s Coffee House.
