Ceremony marks start of 2019 Police Week
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard parts for Maj. Troy Hawkins to present a wreath at the corner of Third and Putnam streets in memory of fallen law enforcement officers. Prayers at the ceremony were conducted by Reserve Deputy Truman Noe. The Marietta Police Department and Marietta College Police Department also contributed wreaths and the Ohio State Highway Patrol was also represented at the ceremony to kick off Police Week in Marietta.
On Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. the sheriff’s office will also conduct a wreath-laying ceremony in Oak Grove Cemetery to honor seven former sheriffs of Washington County. Sheriff Larry Mincks will speak, and the service will be followed by an employee awards luncheon at the Washington County emergency operations center on Davis Avenue at noon. The events are open to the public.
