Marietta Times job fair to be held Friday

The fifth annual Marietta Times and Parkersburg News and Sentinel Spring Job Fair will be held on Friday at the Grand Pointe Conference Center in Vienna from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. More than 20 employers will be at the fair in hopes of finding their ideal candidates.

Lacey Richards, advertising account executive and coordinator of the fair for the newspapers, said there will be many options for people seeking a new career.

“We have a lot of companies with specific hard-to-fill vacancies,” she said.

Marilyn Lipps, human resources director for Par Mar, said her company will be attending the job fair again this year.

“We’re growing quickly, so we are looking for employees,” she said.

Lipps said she is looking for customer service associates and food preparers at most locations throughout the valley. She said there are also positions available at the corporate office located in Marietta. Being a part of the Marietta Times and Parkersburg News and Sentinel Spring Job Fair fits perfectly with her company, she said.

“Par Mar stands for Parkersburg-Marietta,” Lipps said. “It’s important to be a part of the (community).”

Westbrook Health Services of Parkersburg, which provides comprehensive care to individuals with mental health, developmental, substance abuse and addiction challenges, will also be at the job fair. Elizabeth Oates, employment specialist for Westbrook, said her company looks forward to attending the fair this Friday.

“Any opportunity to get the word out about our facility and what we offer, we take,” she said.

She said Westbrook is currently hiring direct care workers from entry level to people with a bachelors or masters degree in the field. But regardless of their level of education, Oates said people who work at Westbrook must possess a singular trait.

“They’ve got to have a lot of compassion for people with disabilities,” she said.

Dennis Coe, manager at R and J Trucking in Marietta, a bulk commodity truck hauler with eight locations in Ohio, said a representative from his company will be looking for new employees at the job fair on Friday.

“We are looking for two maintenance people on two shifts,” he said. “We’re also looking for local and regional drivers.”

Those interested in applying with any of the employers at the fair should come with an updated resume and be ready to communicate with the companies that are there, said Richards.

“Come ready to to fill out applications and possibly do interviews,” she said.
