MOVP’s ‘The Crucible’ opens this Friday

The Mid-Ohio Valley Players will present the Arthur Miller classic, “The Crucible,” at Players Theatre, 229 Putnam St. in Marietta. Performance dates are June 21, 22, 28 and 29 at 8 p.m. and June 23 and 30 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12 for adult, $10 seniors and students and $7 for youth under 17. The box office opens at 5 p.m. for Friday and Saturday performances and at 1 p.m. for Sunday matinees. Tickets are also available at Marty’s Print Shop and online at MOVP.org.

Humane Society

seeking volunteers

The Humane Society of the Ohio Valley is seeking volunteer dog walkers Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. A safety orientation must first be completed Sundays at 1 p.m. Most of the dogs are strong and can pull on a leash. The walks make them more adoptable and help them find homes. Cat volunteers and fosters are also needed as the shelter is critically full.

Ham radio demo will be held on June 22-23

The Marietta Amateur Radio Club will demonstrate ham radio’s capabilities from 2 to 4 p.m. June 22-23 at Jackson Park on Cisler Drive in Marietta. Through the ARRL’s Amateur Radio Emergency Services program, ham volunteers provide both emergency communications for thousands of state and local emergency response agencies and non-emergency services for free. Free diabetes seminar is planned for June 24

Gilman UMC Health Ministry will host a free diabetes community seminar at 7 p.m. June 24. Local chiropractic physician Dr. David Norris DC, MS, DACBN will present “Discover Diabetes: How to reverse it, lose weight without exercise and boost your energy levels.” This seminar is open to the public but seating is limited. Call 740-373-6478 to reserve a seat. The seminar will take place at the Fellowship Hall behind Gilman United Methodist Church at 312 Gilman Ave. in Harmar Village.

Independence Day events at fairgrounds

The Washington County Fairgrounds will host an Independence Day celebration July 6. Gates open at 11 a.m. followed by a tractor pull at noon. Mini Mods are at 7 p.m. and fireworks begin at 10 p.m. The event will also feature food vendors, amusement rides and games, activities for children and more. Admission is $5 and free for children 10 and under.
