The location of the regular July meeting of the Fort Frye Board of Education at 6 p.m. July 18 has been changed to Salem-Liberty Elementary School, 10930 State Route 821, Lower Salem. There will be a Finance Committee meeting beforehand at 5 p.m.

The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR), a fraternal organization of Civil War Union veterans, will be the subject of a talk by retired Ohio history teacher Rod Hineman at the Barlow Library at 7 p.m. July 11. Hineman, now a member of Belpre’s school board, will examine three lives of those veterans who returned from the Civil War and joined the organization to discuss and remember the part each of them played. Everyone is welcome to attend programs of the Western Washington County Historical Society.

The Washington County Health Department will be closed on Thursday for Independence Day. The office will reopen Friday for regular business hours.

All City of Marietta offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Independence Day holiday.

The Marietta 4th of July parade will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fourth and Butler streets. The route will follow Fourth Street, Putnam Street, Second Street, Butler Street and Front Street before ending at the Ohio National Guard Armory. There will be a guest speaker, a salute to veterans and founders and a Civil War cannon demonstration. A lunch/BBQ will be held at the American Legion Post 64 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All are welcome; guests are encouraged to bring any veterans, widows or dependents seeking information about VA benefits.

Tunnel United Methodist Church at Ohio 550 and Coffman Road will host a free community meal featuring taco salad and sloppy joes July 11 from 5 to 6 p.m. The public is welcome. Handicapped parking will be available in the upper parking lot by the church entrance. To request to have a meal delivered within a five-mile radius, call 740-374-5634 and leave a message.
