Warren FFA holds annual parent-member banquet
The Warren FFA Chapter held their 53rd annual Parent-Member Banquet at 6 p.m. on March 9 in the Warren High School gymnasium with 243 parents, members, faculty, and alumni attending the event. The night started off with the chapter officers conducting the opening ceremonies. A meal of chicken or bake steak was prepared by Warren High School cooks and served by the Warren High School student council under direction of advisor Jenni Lynch. Preceding the meal, the FFA Creed was recited by freshman member, Leslie McPherson, followed by student FFA experiences at several different camps and experiences with the FFA Land Lab. A total of 20 greenhand degrees were given out to first year FFA members and 13 chapter degrees were given out to second year members. After these awards, numerous scholarships were handed out to members for FFA Camp, Ohio Leadership Conference, and Washington Leadership Conference sponsored by local businesses and families. Quest speaker Brad Payne gave the senior parent response; Kayla Starlin, Ohio’s District 10 President gave a FFA opportunities speech; Robert Jordan, Alumni President gave an update of alumni activities; Sara Bonnette from Farm Credit Services Marietta office awarded two FFA Blue Jackets to two freshman members through the Blue Jackets Program; and Allen Clark, former Warren Chapter Advisor, talked about teaching Agricultural Education. 2012-13 FFA seniors Mitchell Bogard, Brandon Lane, Ashley Payne, Taylor Merril, and Cortney Welch spoke about their years in FFA. A special year in review slideshow was presented by chapter reporter Becca Giffin. Krista Hellwig was acknowledged for her first year in Agricultural Education at Warren high School. The new 2013-14 Warren FFA Chapter officers include; President Megan Haffner, Vice President Morgan Smith, Secretary Becca Giffin, Treasurer Alexis Coffman, Reporter Katlyn Coffman, Sentinel Cole Welch, Student Advisor Sheldon McCoy, and Committee Chairs Dakota Wentz, Andrew Fisher, and Wade Lynch.
