Donation awarded to Ely Chapman learning station

Peoples Bancorp Foundation, a non-profit corporation formed to make donations in Peoples Bank market areas, recently awarded $5,000 to the Ely Chapman Education Foundation Inc.’s S.U.N.S.H.I.N.E. Learning Station.

“It is our honor and privilege to help serve our community by providing assistance to the Ely Chapman Education Foundation,” said Rick Stafford, Peoples Bank EVP Sales and Marketing. “The program nurtures and equips elementary students with the educational foundation they need to excel in life. Peoples Bank is pleased to support the S.U.N.S.H.I.N.E. program.”

The S.U.N.S.H.I.N.E. Learning Station (SLS), the flagship program of the Ely Chapman Education Foundation Inc. (ECEF), is a state licensed after-school, academically oriented enrichment and reinforcement program for children in grades K-5. Its mission is spelled out in its name: a School for Unusual Needs Students, offering a Healthy, Individualized, and Nurturing Education. The SLS specializes in serving students who need to improve study skills, need extra personal attention or additional academic help, including students who are both below and above their academic grade level. The SLS maintains a student/teacher ratio of 6:1. The program’s goal is that by the time the students move up to middle school they will be working at grade level in math, reading, and writing.
