Local Girl Scout troop 35833 recaps its past year
Girl Scout Troop #35833 finished the 2013-14 year on May 22. The troop consisted of two leaders, Larrisa Poulton-OBrien and Cayce Swartz, and five girls in two levels. In the Daisy level are Emma Eddy, Cali Swartz and Briley West. In the Brownie level are Cadence Cline and Abigail Poulton. The meetings were held every other Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Newport Elementary School.
During the year there were nine meetings and nine planned events. The girls continued learning the basics of Girl Scouts which include the Girl Scout Promise and Law, Girl Scout Sign and Handshake and the Girl Scout Friendship Circle. The Daisy’s have earned their Promise Center and all 10 Petals. The Brownies have earned their Legacy Badges in Bugs, First Aid, Snacks and Fair Play. The Brownies have also earned their Safety Award Pin. Through the year all of the girls had the chance to receive several Fun Patches which include Service to Troops, Card Making, Helping Out, Bowling, Valentine’s Day and Easter Egg Hunt.
In January the girls attended a Cookie Rally with other troops to start off the cookie selling. The girls went to North Hills Lanes to bowl and ate at Pizza Hut. In February they had a Valentine’s Day party and took a tour of McCarthy Dentistry. They took part in World Thinking Day with other troops. In March they toured Cedar Run Farm and got to see how maple syrup is made. The Brownies also participated in the Powder Puff Derby where both girls placed. In April they had an Easter party and a Spring Fling Dance with other troops. In May they went to the Jug for ice cream.
Several 2014 events are planned. In June they are going to The Farm at Walnut Creek in the Amish Country to celebrate their first successful year as a Girl Scout Troop. The girls will also have the opportunity to attend a three day Girl Scout Camp. There will be a planned event in July and one in August.
