Warren student receives Belpre Chamber scholarship

Carly Matheny, 2014 graduate of Warren High School, has been named the recipient of the Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship, valued at $500.

While at Warren High School, she was active in choir (a cappella and treble), and pep club. She was named Outstanding Choir Member, achieved a superior rating at regional and district choir competitions and at Festival of Music Bahamas Cruise with Warren High School choir.

Matheny has volunteered with St. Mark’s Pre-School, Salvation Army, Junior Garden Club/4H, Barlow Library, Angel Food Network, and Belpre Area Ministries. She has participated in Adult Leadership Convention and has interpreted church programs using American Sign Language. Her family has served as a mentor family for Chinese students from Marietta College.

The daughter of Becky and Dave Matheny of Little Hocking, she plans to pursue a history degree with a minor in communication at Marietta College.

Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce works actively with local, state and federal agencies to promote commerce in the Belpre area. Member businesses network to promote doing business in Belpre by participating in chamber-sponsored events and services such as B2B breakfasts, quarterly luncheons, an annual dinner, community event sponsorship, referral services, social media, and advertising/promotions. Chamber members actively support youth achievement through this scholarship program plus by sponsoring Belpre Youth Chamber of Commerce.
