Pageant for ladies 60 and older

Mountaineer Casino Racetrack and Resort will host the Senior America Tri-State Pageant for Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia women who have reached “The Age of Elegance,” 60 years and over, on Aug. 26. Three state queens will be crowned, each of whom will have the opportunity to represent her state at the National Finals in October. The Ms. Senior America Pageant (www.senioramerica.org), founded by Al Mott in 1972, is a celebration of the continuing contributions of senior women. “The gifts of talent don’t diminish with age,” says Mott, “and our senior women make valuable contributions that should be recognized.”

Contestants are judged on interview, evening gown, talent and philosophy of life presentations, but rally around their queen when the pageant is done and continue to work together year round. Former pageant contestants are found singing and dancing in nursing homes, hospitals and veteran’s facilities, and plan to offer a showcase at Mountaineer as a welcome to the Pageant.

Vice President Louise Ferla recounts a hospital visit when an elderly stroke patient, unable to speak, suddenly began to sing a WW II- era song with her. “I cried, the nurse cried, even the doctor cried,” Ferla says. “It’s something I will never forget.”

Tickets are now on-sale, and can be purchased via PayPal from our website, at: www.senioramerica.org/tri-state_pageant_items.asp
