Annual triatholon on track for Sept. 28

The Marietta Rowing & Cycling Club announced that final plans are underway for this year’s 1st City Triathlon to be held Sunday, Sept. 28. This is the ninth year in a row that the club has organized this athletic event that involves running, bicycling, and paddling. Participants can either compete as an individual in the Ironperson (Male or Female) category or they can form a relay team of two, three, or four individuals and compete in one of three categories (all male, all female, or mixed male and female).

The event starts with a 4.2 mile run on a flat course in Marietta that begins and ends at the Marietta College Boathouse. The second leg is a 19.5 mile bicycle ride up the West side of the Muskingum River to the city of Lowell where athletes will turn South and pedal down State Route 60 to Devola and then to Devol’s Dam. The third leg of the race begins at the beach just below the Lock at Devola where athletes will get into their boats and paddle five miles down the Muskingum River back to Marietta. The race ends at the Marietta College Docks.

Athletes must supply their own bicycles and canoes or kayaks. All bicycle riders must wear helmets and all paddlers must wear USCG approved type III PFDs while competing.

There is no pre-registration for this event. Registration is set for 7 a.m. at the Marietta College Boathouse on Gilman Street in Marietta on the day of the event, Sunday, Sept. 28. The race starts at 10 a.m.. Entry fee is $20 per person.
