21st Holiday Lights Bicycle Tour is Dec. 26

The Historic 21st Marietta Holiday Lights Bicycle Tour invites all cyclists to join in the ride when there is no such thing as bad weather.

“There is no bad weather for the Holiday Lights Bicycle Tour, just bad clothing,” said Ride Coordinator Roger G. Kalter, a member of the sponsoring Marietta Bicycle Club.

Bicyclists wearing helmets and with lighted bikes meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 26, at First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta at 232 Third St.

Cyclists gently wander 6 to 10 miles on River Trail and lightly traveled city streets enjoying Holiday Lights throughout the historic heart of Ohio’s first city.

After riding 60 to 90 minutes within historic downtown and Victorian residential neighborhoods, cyclists return to the church for hot chocolate and homemade cookies and fellowship.

A record 134 cyclists rode in 45 degree weather in 2014 and 29 during 60 degrees with intermittent rain last year.

Children age 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult, who rides nearby.

Everyone must wear a helmet and have at least a flashlight for illumination. Free registrations with liability waivers are required immediately prior to ride start.
