Family & Children First programs
– Family & Children First is sponsoring a winter session of the Strengthening Families 10-14 Program. The program, for parents and youth ages 10 to 14, is a parent, youth, and family skills-building curriculum designed to build family strengths; strengthen parenting skills; and prevent teen substance abuse and other behavior problems. The seven-week session is free, with dinner and child care provided, along with transportation assistance. The winter session will be held Tuesdays, Feb. 21, through April 4, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at the Ely Chapman Center in Marietta. For more information and to register, call 740-376-7081. – Family & Children First is sponsoring the Incredible Years Preschool Basic Program. This evidence-based program, for parents of children ages 3 to 6, strengthens parent-child interactions and relationships. The program concentrates on strengthening children’s social skills and school readiness skills, using praise and incentives to encourage cooperative behavior, and positive discipline techniques. The 14-week session, offered by trained facilitators, is free, with child care provided. The class sessions will be held Mondays, Feb. 6, through May 8, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Family & Children First office, 202 Davis Ave., Marietta.
