DELAWARE — Chey Hanson of McConnelsville was honored April 20 at Ohio Wesleyan University’s 13th annual Dale J. Bruce Scholar-Athlete Awards Dinner.

The celebration recognized Battling Bishop athletes from Ohio Wesleyan’s 23 varsity sports for their academic and athletic successes during the 2016-2017 school year.

Hanson earned the Top Fifty Academic Award.

Hanson competed in Battling Bishop Women’s Cross Country.

Ohio Wesleyan is part of Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC).

DELAWARE — Larynn Cutshaw of Marietta was among the Ohio Wesleyan University students presenting original research or creative work at the university’s 2017 Student Symposium.

The third-annual event, held April 18, allowed students to share the breadth and depth of their Ohio Wesleyan academic work, hone their professional presentation skills, and foster communication about future research projects and artistic creations.

Cutshaw presented “Ecological, Economical, and Social Dependence on Coral Triangle Tuna Fisheries” and “GEOG 499: Sustainability Seminar.” Cutshaw was mentored by Ohio Wesleyan faculty members Nathan Amador Rowley and John Krygier, respectively.

Muskingum University

NEW CONCORD — Julie Fobes of Marietta has received Ohio Athletic Conference Clyde Lamb Award, Donna J. Newberry Pursuit of Perfection Award and Barbara Steiner Outstanding Senior Female Athlete award. The awards were presented at a luncheon held April 27.

The athletic honor awards are presented to Muskingum’s most outstanding student-athletics, recognizing their competitive successes, good sportsmanship and commitment to academics, as voted by head coaches.

Fobes also earned Best Win at the Second Annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Golden Hook Awards ceremony held on the campus in New Concord.

The Golden Hook Awards were voted on by members of SAAC, which represents all 21 varsity sports at Muskingum.
