Muskingum Garden Club hosts Ikebana event at Betsey Mills

The Muskingum Garden Club sponsored an Ikebana event at the Betsey Mills Club in Marietta. It was coordinated by Judy VanDyk and all club members. The luncheon was provided by Muskingum Garden Club members. Other clubs attending were Belpre Garden Club, Barlow Blue Bells and Little Hocking Garden Club.

The patriotic theme was observed in honor of our country’s birthday, tables were decorated with American Flags. Val Hoover offered “World Hunger Grace” before luncheon, followed by Nadine Kasick and Diana Eesley leading the gathering in singing “This Land is Your Land This Land is My Land.”

During the luncheon of scrumptious food and American pies prepared by Latrelle Ellis and Diana Eesley were enjoyed. There was great fellowship among garden club members and guests. Door prizes were given during the meal.

Sarah Dye of Top Drawer, who is an assistant professor, third grade, holds many awards in Ikebana designs. Dye gave the history of Ikebana and demonstrated how to arrange Ikenobo freestyle. Each of the participants made a creative arrangement and placed into a container provided by Sarah Dye. Everyone enjoyed sharing ideas and looking at each other’s designs.

Many of the attendees will participate in the Washington County Fair Flower Show over Labor Day 2017. The judging of the flower show will be on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Merchants Hall.
