Belpre Rotary hears from sheriff, mayor
Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks explained to Belpre Rotary Club members at the Sept. 13 meeting that methamphetamine has become an increasing problem in the county, adding to the challenge of heroine use and trafficking. Sheriff Mincks described the department’s efforts to battle heroine overdoses as well as use of cyber investigative methods to curb drug trafficking. In addition, Jon Neff of Bob’s Market and Belpre Mayor Mike Lorentz introduced an effort to replenish trees in the city’s parks and on residential property with a discounted purchase program. Club members will be challenged to purchase one tree per member through a campaign to replace the tree canopy which has seen a recent 35 percent to 40 percent loss from disease, age and storms.
