Career Center names students of the month

The Washington County Career Center honors its October Students of the Month, Katelyn Chesser and Tanner Wriston.

Katelyn Chesser is a Warren senior enrolled in the Medical College Prep program, and she is the daughter of Justin and Bonnie Chesser of Bartlett.

At the Career Center, Chesser is a member of the SkillsUSA youth organization, National Technical Honor Society (NTHS), and Student Council.

She is the elected president for NTHS and secretary for her technical program.

She has received awards for the Principal’s List and the Career Center’s W.I.S.H. List in meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals.

At Warren High School, Chesser was involved in FFA and cross country.

Through her technical program, she has earned certifications in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED). She is currently taking EKG and will be taking the State-Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) exam in April 2018.

She has received college credit or is currently taking dual-enrollment classes for: English Composition, Introduction to Nutrition, Medical Terminology I, Medical Terminology II, and Pharmacology Math. English instructor, Sherm Koons, comments on special traits and roles that Chesser carries such as ready, respectful, responsible, and sets the bar for quality work.

Chesser currently is employed with Veterans Crossing, in Decatur, as a server. Upon graduation, she plans to attend Washington State Community College to obtain an Associate Degree to become a Registered Nurse, and then transfer to Ohio University to take online classes to earn a BSN.

Tanner Wriston is a Warren senior enrolled in the Building Technology/Carpentry program, and he is the son of Crystal Martin of Belpre.

Wriston is a member of the Career Center’s SkillsUSA youth organization, National Technical Honor Society, and is the president of his technical program. He has received awards for Principal’s List, Honor Roll, and has been on the Career Center’s W.I.S.H.

List in meeting all three criteria for 3.0 GPA or higher, 95% attendance or higher, and no office referrals.

At Warren High School, he was active in football. Through his technical program, Wriston has earned the 10-Hour OSHA certification and is currently working on the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) – Core & Level 1.

This school year, he is taking the College Algebra dual-enrollment course to earn both high school and college credit.

English instructor, Sherm Koons, comments on special traits and roles that Wriston carries such as a great work ethic and does everything to his full potential.

Wriston works at Wendy’s in Belpre. Following graduation, he aspires to enter the Carpenter’s Union to gain additional skills and employment directly in to the workforce.
