Nominations being sought for Gabe Zide Citizen of the Year

For many years, the Marietta Jaycees solicited nominations and selected the recipient of the Gabe Zide Citizen of the Year. The winner was honored at the Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Dinner.

In 2004, the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce began keeping the tradition of the Gabe Zide Citizen of the Year ongoing by soliciting large service organizations for nominations. A committee comprised of area service club representatives plus other committee members that could include past honorees, the chamber president, a chamber board past chairman or current chairman of the board.

The criteria for selecting the Citizen of the Year are:

1. The nominee must have contributed to the overall good of Marietta area, without monetary gain.

2. The nominee must have been a resident of the Marietta area for at least five years. MACC would trust the service organizations to select individuals that are deserving of the award no matter where the recipient lives. This may open the award to those individuals who may have had a longstanding and personal relationship with the community, but left the area because of retirement, family, health, or job reasons.

3. Nominees shall have manifested unusual service in one or more of the following areas:

a. community service projects

b. youth work, education, civic club service

c. church activities

d. civic improvement projects

e. United Way, industrial development

f. unsolicited and unselfish to others for the betterment of mankind and community life in the Marietta area

g. The nominee’s talents, their willingness to help and their unselfish attitude toward life should be a major consideration

4. The award may be given posthumously.

Nominations are now being accepted at the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce. Nominations must be written explaining the above stated criteria and faxed to 740-373-7808, mailed to 100 Front St., Ste. 200, Marietta, OH 45750 or emailed to no later than Jan. 24, 2018.
