Trail Blazers 4-H club news for the month of March

The Trail Blazers 4-H club had its first meeting of the year on Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Barlow Fairgrounds. There were 21 members and 14 guests presents. The American pledge was led by Emily Hoffman, and the 4-H pledge was led by Leeann Trippett. The leaders and Cory, Emily, and Travis Hoffman brought snacks and drinks for after the meeting. Cassie Dennis will bring drinks and Devin Shutts will bring snacks to the March meeting.

On March 8, Washington County 4-H held a 4-H open house. The open house is to let youth or anyone wanting to join 4-H learn what 4-H is about. The leaders handed out papers for each member to sign. “JUST SAY WHOO!” This paper encourages members to show good ethics and good sportsmanship.

Cory Hoffman spoke about Skillathon. What each station consisted of. Every member that is showing a live animal must do skillathon in order to show and sell at the fairs.

Quality Assurance:

Waterford High School-March 20

Warren High School- April 19

Washington County Career Center- May 15 All members showing a live animal must attend one Quality Assurance, unless tested out.

There will be a Tack Auction at the Barlow Fairgrounds Coonhunter Building on March 24. The doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the auction starts at 6:30 p.m. All members need to bring a dessert for the food booth. Members need to plan on helping out at the auction.

The 4-H members voted to have a silent auction or country store to help raise money for the Horse Bowl members. This will be at the Tack Auction.

The 4-H group donated food to the Western Washington County Food Pantry. The members also voted to donate to different associations each month. April they will be taking donations for the Humane Society. March will be taking donations for the Endowment basket.

Community Service- All members need to participate in the Spaghetti Dinner and Gun Raffle to help make money for Washington County Fair Board. All members need to donate a dessert. The event is planned for March 10, from 5 to 8 pm. Also plan to work that day.

Endowment Dinner is April 7. The members voted on doing a theme basket “Family Fun Game Night.” Each members needs to bring a donation to the next meeting such as games, movies, popcorn or anything you like to do with your family.

March 4-10, was poster contest and window display. The window display was decorated March 2 at Seamans General Merchandise in Barlow. Charles Seaman allowed the Trail Blazers to decorate in his store windows.

March 27, is officers training/advisors sessions at the Washington County Career Center starting at 7 p.m.

March 30, candy bar money is due at extension office please plan to give it to Pam, Kelle, Martha, or Jill at the next meeting.

The next meeting is March 15 at Barlow Fairgrounds Coonhunters Building at 6:30 p.m.
