Washington County Democratic Women

The Washington County Democratic Women’s Council met June 26 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The meeting was called to order by President Molly Varner. Jake McClellen, ODP field organizer, led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Marlene Delany read the minutes and Carolyn Dempsey gave the treasurer’s report.

Door-to-door canvasing will begin Saturday, July 14, and continue every Saturday until the November election. Anyone interested in helping should contact Jake at 817-539-8320.

A dinner to honor Richard Cordray, candidate for governor, will be held Aug. 7 at Marietta College. Contact Willa O’Neill or Robin Bozian for tickets. Betty Sutton, candidate for lieutenant governor, visited Marietta for a press conference.

A group of Democrats recently visited Rep. Bill Johnson’s office to express concerns about the separation of immigrant parents and children. The group received no response from Rep. Johnson.

Peggy Byers reported that a new ballot system, paper/computer hybrid, has been approved. There is a continued need for poll workers.

Anyone interested should call the Board of Elections.
