Thoughts of faith: Think about the Bible

Think the Bible is just another book? Think the Bible is not God inspired? May I kindly, yet bluntly, say, “Think again!” Truth is, if we have ever glanced up at a cloud, been awed by a shooting star, felt a breeze against our skin, squinted into the sun, admired the moon, dipped our toes into the ocean, or played in the rain, we are not only experiencing God’s handiwork (Romans 1:20), we are witnessing irrefutable proof of God’s Word – The Bible.

There is no way- NO WAY – around the Bible’s inerrancy. Science, archaeology, medicine, history, and prophecy each provides startling and unquestionable evidence attesting to the Bible’s infallibility. Let’s examine a few of these indisputable proofs.

Because ancient man couldn’t believe the earth hangs unattached, the Hindus thought the earth was carried by an elephant standing on the back of a giant turtle, and Greek mythology had the god Atlas holding earth upon his shoulders. Yet Job, perhaps the oldest book of the Bible, presented the scientific truth. “He (God) stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.” (Job 26:7)

For centuries men, believing earth to be flat, hesitated to sail far in any direction for fear of falling off the edge of the earth. “It is He (God) that sitteth upon the circle (roundness) of the earth?.” (Isaiah 40:22a) It wasn’t until the 1500’s that man discovered what the Bible proclaimed thousands of years earlier.

“?Look now toward heaven, and tell (count) the stars if thou be able to number them?” (Genesis 15:5); “?as the host (stars) of heaven cannot be numbered?” (Jeremiah 33:22a) In our galaxy alone, there are around 200 to 300 billion stars, and science has calculated at least 100-150 billion galaxies exist. Again science has affirmed God’s Word.

Again the Book of Job is thousands of years ahead of modern science as it explains the Hydrologic Cycle (water cycle). “For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour? which the clouds do drop?.”. Ecclesiastes 1:7 also enlightens. ” All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.”

Around 370 years ago it was discovered that wind has weight, which led man to invent the barometer. In Job 28:25 we are told that God made ?”the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.” Again, science played catch-up.

In the books of Genesis (17:12) and Leviticus it is specifically stated that a male infant must be circumcised on the eighth day after birth. Modern medicine has discovered that due to the lack of vitamin K in a newborn prior to the eighth day, bleeding could be extensive; even death could occur. “?If a woman have conceived seed, and born a man child,?in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.” (Leviticus 12:2-3) Not until the 20th century was this fact discovered.

God revealed to Moses exact laws addressing public health issues such as epidemics, venereal diseases, loose sex, leprosy and quarantines (Leviticus 13-15, Numbers 19). Human waste disposal was very detailed. “Thou shalt have a place ?without the camp, whither thou shalt go forth abroad (in the open air): And thou shalt have a paddle upon thy weapon; and it shall be, when thou wilt ease thyself abroad, thou shalt dig there with, and shalt turn back and cover that which cometh from thee;”. (Deuteronomy 23:12-13) A modern day doctor’s quote: “The admonitions of Moses are the groundwork of most of today’s sanitary laws?and to this day they have been little improved upon.”

How can we ignore the Bible’s exactness, when such solid evidence abounds? Coincidence? Not hardly! Additional proven facts addressing the clouds, constellations, blood, dietary habits, hygiene, the law of ‘entropy’, and the oceans’ currents, valleys, fountains and springs clearly showcase the divine inspiration of God. (II Timothy 3:16)

Since the Bible’s scientific and medical facts have been validated, historical data authenticated, biblical names and places confirmed by archaeology, and all fulfilled prophecies realized with 100% accuracy, we had better bury pride and come to the realization that the Bible’s every chapter, every verse, every word – words about God, sin, repentance, Jesus Christ, grace, faith, resurrection, eternal life, Heaven, Judgment, Satan, Hell, Lake of Fire, everlasting punishment – are true! God doesn’t lie! (Titus 1:2)

God wrote the Bible for us: to offer hope; to provide knowledge of eternal life; to lead us to Jesus Christ. “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.” (John 20:31)

If you think the Bible is pointless and irrelevant ?Please, PLEASE think again.

“Every word of God is pure (true)?” (Proverbs 30:5)
