Parkersburg Choral Society to perform spring concert
The Parkersburg Choral society will be welcoming spring at their May 4 concert. The music selected by Luke Zyla, director, will be a variety of both old and new which celebrates the spring season. The concert will be followed by a reception with entertainment by choral society members.
The concert and reception will be May 4 at 3 p.m. in the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1710 23rd St., Parkersburg. The concert is open to the public. It is supported by Artsbridge and local sponsors. Donations may be made at the door.
Jason Smith, Professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Ohio University will join the choir to perform “Sweet Molly and Friends” and “When Yuba Plays The Rumba On The Tuba”. This will be a unique opportunity to hear the combination of the human voice and tuba.
The program will introduce spring with musical selections including “Voices of the Night”, “Voices of the Earth”, “Arise Beloved”, and ” Measure Me Sky”. The musical journey will continue with arrangements of “Sea Fever”, “About Us Lies The Summer Night”, and “Closer To The Flame”.
An arrangement by Richard Board of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” will be performed for the first time. Board is the President of the Parkersburg Choral Society, professional musician and music educator.
The free reception following the concert will include a performance by the Julia-Ann Quartet. The quartet includes Melissa Herceg, flute; Richard Board, clarinet; Luke Zyla, French horn and Robert Herceq, cello.
