Valentine’s concert Sunday

The Parkersburg Choral Society, under the direction of Luke Zyla, will present it’s annual Valentine’s Day Concert on Sunday, Feb. 11 at Vienna Baptist Church on Grand Central Avenue in Vienna at 3 p.m.

The program will include a variety of choral works as well as solo works performed by members of the Choral Society. Soloists for this performance include Elise Sheppard, Douglas Anderson, Danielle Kelly, Kristen Hainkel, Melissa Herceg, Woody Wilson and Candice Bandy. Martha McGovern will present a dramatic presentation of a poem by Jennifer Maier entitled Love at First Sight. “C-Note”, a barbershop quartet will close the first half of the concert with three tunes: My Girl, And So It Goes, and Goodnight It’s Time To Go. Members of C-Note include Tim Blissett, Kodiak Dschida, Don Hainkel and Bob Herceg.

The second half of the concert will open with a performance of Waltz #2 by Dimitri Shostakovich presented by members of the Julia-Ann Ensemble, Melissa Herceg, Bob Herceg, Richard Board, accompanied David Nuss, rehearsal accompanist for the Choral Society.

The Choral Society will perform several pieces accompanied by a jazz combo composed of Tim Marks, alto sax, Buddy Lee, tenor sax, Mike Lockney, trumpet, Sheila Wiseman, trombone, Rocky Wiseman, bass, Scott Kitchen, drums and David Nuss, piano. The concert will conclude with an up tempo arrangement of “Old Devil Moon” by Burton Lane from the Broadway show, Finian’s Rainbow.

Admission to all of the concerts by the Parkersburg Choral Society is free. Donations are accepted at the door to help support the activities of the Choral Society. The Choral Society is supported entirely by the donations from audience members and music lovers from the Mid-Ohio Valley.
