Harold Everett Byer

Harold Everett Byer, 93, of Marietta, passed away on Friday (May 10, 2013) at the Harmar Place. He was born on Aug. 17, 1919, in Lower Salem to the late Lewis Ellis and Robertie Belle (English) Byer.

Harold worked as a purchasing agent at Remington Rand for 18 and a half years and was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a Corporal during World War II, where he was a POW in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Aurelius Lodge #308, F & A.M., Macksburg, Ohio, Marietta Commandery No. 50 Knights Templar, The Marietta York Rite Bodies, American Legion Post #64 and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Harold is survived by one son, Leslie Byer (Kathie), Charlotte, N.C.; one niece, Jean Wagner McVaney, Ravenswood, W.Va.; and one step grandchild, Jacob Scott Morton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lola Schultheiss Byer, whom he married on April 17, 1947, one son, Lewis Byer; one brother, Donald Byer and one sister, Gladys Wagner.

Services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013, at the Hadley Funeral Home, 500 Fifth St., Marietta with the Rev. Diann O’Bryant officiating. Burial to follow at Salem Township Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call on Sunday (May 12) from 2 to 8 p.m.. and one hour prior to the funeral service. A Masonic Service will be held on Sunday (May 12) at 7:30 p.m.
