Davis A. McInturf
Davis A. McInturf, 87, of McConnelsville, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2013 at the Riverside Landing in McConnelsville. He was born May 5, 1926 in Penn Township and lived most of his life there.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florence McCormick McInturf and daughter and son in law, Janis and John Tysko. He has three grandchildren, John Davis J.D., Joanna, and Joseph Tysko. He has a sister in law, Dorothy McInturf and brother in law and sister in law Chester and Dorotha McCormick and several nieces and nephews still living. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maude Niceswanger McInturf and his seven brothers and sisters.
He served in the United States Army at Ft. Hood, Texas from 1952 to 1954. He drove a school bus for Morgan Local School District for 12 years and also worked at Morgan County Highway Department. In addition, he worked swabbing gas wells. He retired in the 1980s.
He was a charter member of the Lakeside Riding Club, which he helped organize Oct. 4, 1949 in Penn Township. He was very active by helping organize horse shows and lots of activities for the group. He was active in many organizations including Pennsville Grange, Morgan County Pomona Grange, Ohio State Grange and the National Grange. He was master of Pennsville Grange for many years and was a 65 year member. He recently transferred his membership to the Neelyville Grange. He was a member of the Pennsville Volunteer Fire Department and served as president and secretary for 10 years. He was a member of the Chesterhill and Marietta Odd Fellows. He proudly served as a fair director from Penn Township on the Morgan County Agricultural Society for 40 years. He was also treasurer for 25 years These were some of his most memorable experiences. In 1974 he was named Honorary Lieutenant Governor of Ohio which was presented at the fair. He was inducted into the Ohio Fair Managers Hall of Fame in January 2006 in Columbus.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the Miller-Huck Funeral Home in McConnelsville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 3, 2013 at the funeral home with Dan Hickerson officiating. He will be laid to rest with military honors by the American Legion Post 24 firing squad in Pennsville Cemetery.
