Martha Anna Hudnall

Martha Anna Hiener Hudnall, 89, of Marietta, died Sunday (July 21, 2013) at Marietta Center and Rehabilitation. She was born April 1, 1924, in Washington County, Ohio, to Walter C. and Ruth A LaFaber Hiener.

Martha was a 1943 graduate of Marietta High School. Shortly after her graduation, she was employed at S.S. Kresge. She later worked at A & P in Marietta and Parkersburg, where she retired after 35 years of service. Martha received the Presidential Lifetime Service Award from RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) for contributing 5,553 lifetime volunteer hours. She was a member of the O’Neill Senior Program of Washington County, American Red Cross volunteer, 55 Plus, Daughter of America Ladies Auxiliary VFW, Women’s International Bowling Congress, Ohio WBA Tournament Tattler where she was recognized in 1992 for 32 years of participation. She was a member of the Sand Hill United Methodist Church.

She was an avid bingo player, OSU fan and bowler. She was famous for throwing her “hook” ball. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and sharing her vegetables with family, neighbors and friends.

On July 18, 1948, she married Paul Edward Hudnall, who preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1966.

Martha is survived by her three brothers, Raymond Hiener of Watertown, Joseph Hiener and Walter J. (Marty) Hiener of Marietta; five sisters, Kathryn Ross of Speedway, Ind., Florence Bartyczak of Warrenton, Mo., twin sister Margaret Groves, Mary Louise Hockenberry, both of Marietta, and Louella Wilson of Lowell; and sister-in-law, Rita Hiener. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and several great- and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Helen M. Yost; and brother, Robert Hiener; sisters-in-law, Mary Anne Hiener and Doris Hiener; brothers-in-law, George Wilson, Richard “Dick” Hockenberry, Andrew Bartyczak, Max Ross, Virgil Groves; and niece, Jane Hiener.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday (July 25) at 10 a.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Wendy Erb officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday after 2 p.m., with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.lankfordfh.com.
