Carl W. Dishong

Carl W. Dishong, 87, passed away on Sunday (Aug. 18, 2013) at his home after a long illness.

He was born on April 20, 1926, to William and Iva Dishong. He was born in New Straitsville, Ohio, and resided in Reno, Ohio. Carl was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific theatre. He was a meat cutter by trade and meat manager of the Big Bear store and retired after 25 years. After retirement, he became an avid collector of antiques. He was a Farrier and a Blacksmith and was a member of the ABANA, SOFA, and ABA Blacksmith associations. He was a lifetime member of both the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite of the Valley of Columbus and The Grand Lodge of F & AM of Ohio in New Straitsville, Ohio.

On Oct 18, 1953, he married Joanne Pierce, who survives with two daughters and three sons, Jan Dishong, Linda Greathouse, Carl Dishong Jr. (Mel), Jonathon Dishong (Darlene), and Dean Dishong (Brenda); five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; six brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday (Aug. 22) at 10 a.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with the Rev. Linda Steelman officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery with military rites. Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday after 2 p.m. with family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
