Clara J. ‘Cricket’ Hendershot
Clara J. “Cricket” Hendershot, 81, Newport, widow of David Paul Hendershot, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 7, 2013) at her residence.
Born on Oct. 7, 1931, in Lowell, she was a daughter of the late William Ivy and Edna Harris West. She was a 1949 graduate of Marietta High School, and wed David on Nov. 11, 1950. Cricket was a homemaker, a Methodist by faith, and an avid Ohio University and Ohio State University fan.
She is survived by two daughters, Jan (Don) Wichterman, and Paula (Mark) Rogers; two sons, Doug and Steve Hendershot; seven grandchildren, Doug (Adrienne) Hendershot, Jr., Jamie (Calista) Knowlton, Jerran Knowlton, David Hendershot, Tasha Hendershot, and John Rogers; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Knowlton, Abigail Knowlton, and Bentley Stoke; three sisters, Belva Strickland, Fran (Kenny) Carver, and Dot Wittekind; two brothers, Cletis (Thelma) West, and Ron (Cheryl) West; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by husband; parents; and one sister, Eva West.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 10, 2013) in Newport Cemetery, Newport, with Pastor David Beaver officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, W.Va. There will be a procession from the funeral home to the graveside Saturday. Following the graveside service there will be a gathering of family and friends at the Newport United Methodist Church.
