Carolyn Bryan Walker

Carolyn Bryan Walker, 69, of Charlotte, N.C., passed away on Sunday (Dec. 29, 2013) at her sister’s home in Vincent. She was born on Feb. 14, 1944, in Elizabeth W.Va., a daughter of the late Gilbert Jennings Bryan and Lucille Daugherty Bryan.

She was a graduate of Warren High School class of 1962. She then earned her degree in education from the Ohio University and later attended Ohlone College in Fremont, Calif. She was most recently employed by the Washington County Board of Elections after which she moved south and made her home with her sister Joyce. Carolyn was a member of Gilman United Methodist Church and had co-founded the Marietta Soccer League. She had a love for education and teaching children and had taught all over Washington County.

Among her favorite things were visits from her family and friends, sharing conversation with all the “little girls” in her life, always finding an opportunity to make the most simple things a treasured event. She loved babies, spending summer days gardening and canning with sisters and had a unique sense of humor that will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Carolyn is survived by three sons: Wendell (Valerie) of Atlanta, Ga., Michael of Athens, Ohio, and Stuart of California; four grandchildren, Brad Walker, Maria Walker, Amelia Walker-Reid, and Molly Walker. She is also survived by one brother, Kenna Bryan (Mary Jo) of Elizabeth, W.Va.; and five sisters, Barbra Astorg (Joe) of Vienna, W.Va., Beth Nay (Jarrett) of Washington, W.Va., Joyce Powell of Charlotte, N.C., Jeanne Stewart (Paul) of Marietta, and Anita Burnworth (Ron) of Vincent, Ohio. Lovingly referred to as Aunt Coni she is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Also a very special aunt, Marjorie Batten of Elizabeth. W.Va.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. at Gilman United Methodist Church in Marietta.
