Rolin O. ‘Beck’ Becker

Rolin passed away at his home in Venice, Fla., on Friday (Jan. 24, 2014), with his family at his side. He was born at Marietta on Oct. 11, 1925, to Leota (McBride) and Otto Becker. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and regularly attended Norwood Methodist Church with his wife and children.

Rolin graduated from Marietta High School in 1943, where he played percussion in the Marching Band. In 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving as a motor mechanic in the Pacific/Asia during WWII until his discharge in 1946. Upon his return to Marietta, he attended Marietta College and Mountain State Business College. Rolin was employed by B. F. Goodrich Plastics for 38 years and held the first hire badge until his retirement in August 1985.

On Nov. 26, 1949, he married Pauline “Polly” Cline. Together they raised three daughters. Beck and Polly moved to Florida in Sept. 1985. During his retirement years, he served as an Election Poll Worker, president of the Golden Beach and Sentinel Condo Associations and reorganized the Golden Beach Citizen Patrol Program.

Rolin was a member of American Legion Post 64. He enjoyed golfing with his buddies and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing and travelling with friends, visiting all 50 states, the Caribbean, Europe and China.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Pamela Becker and Becky Bishop of Venice, Fla.; granddaughter, Tamara Becker of the U.S. Army, Fort Hood, Texas, and his sister-in-law, Deloris Knowlton of Woodsfield, Ohio. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sonja Becker; sister, Mary Lou Lucas (Paul).

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday (Jan. 31, 2014) at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Venice, Fla. Entombment will follow in East Lawn Mausoleum at a later date.
